The requirements of travelling internationally

How many times have you heard someone ask you something like: ‘what should I pack?’ ‘What clothes should I take?’ or even ‘I don’t want to over-pack’?! When traveling abroad, packing light can save you time and hassle. This is especially true when traveling internationally – you may have to go through security checks at airports, customs, etc. Packing light helps you get through these checks faster, saving you valuable time. But packing light does require some forethought. As you prepare for your trip, try to figure out the items you’ll need, such as clothing, toiletries, medicine, electronics, personal care products, and travel documents. Let’s see below the requirements for traveling internationally.

Passport and visa

Most international travelers will generally carry a passport (with enough validity before departure). A passport that allows multiple entries into neighboring countries is also advisable. Besides, it is always better if you keep photocopies of important documents in your contact list, particularly those related to credit cards.

Luggage

Make sure you are carrying the right luggage size. If you feel that your baggage weight exceeds what you usually carry, then consider downsizing. It is also advantageous to select a bag with wheels so you can easily move around while on board. Also, make sure your bags/suitcases do not exceed more than 20kgs each. You might be required to pay additional fees when exceeding the limit.

Clothes and shoes

You must remember the weather changes and the temperature differences between regions vary significantly! So, choose appropriate clothing depending upon the season. To make things easier, bring comfortable but stylish clothes which are suitable for different climates.

Electronics

If you have a laptop or tablet, make sure they are powered by batteries instead of an adapter, since most international flights only provide one battery slot per passenger, and airlines charge quite high prices for recharging.

Medicines

It is recommended that you take medications with you, whether prescription or non-prescription medicines. Medications that could help overcome jet lag include antihistamines to prevent an allergic reaction to dust mites found in hotel rooms; sleeping tablets to allow you to sleep during flight delays; pain relievers for sore muscles and joints; and sunscreen lotion for protection from sunburns.

Medicines

Don’t forget the essentials needed to bathe yourself and take care of your skin.

Travel Documents

Besides having your passport ready, it is best to also carry copies of your credit card statement, bank statement and insurance documents. For some travelers, this means packing passports, social security cards, proof of address and utility bills.

Snacks

Try bringing food that doesn’t spoil quickly. Also, don’t forget drinks and snacks to stay awake while waiting at an airport gate or traveling through various time zones!

Insurance

The final thing we would like to point out is about insurance. We know that travel insurance isn’t mandatory in Malaysia, but if you plan to visit places like Mount Kinabalu, Cameron Highlands and others, there is no way any traveler will be able to avoid medical expenses. So always get comprehensive insurance cover, to be safe. In conclusion, there are many things that we haven’t covered here – please do look into them before your travel. But these should be enough to get you started when planning for your next trip! CategoriesUncategorized Post navigation Previous Post
